About me, my approach and values

When I was a teenager I had lots of questions about life and "normality". An avid consumer of books and knowledge I wanted to understand how to "be normal" and know it all. I chose to become a counsellor because I realized I wasn't alone in this experience: quietly suffering, trying out various self help methods and medications to no avail with no relief in sight. For years I was struggling with my mental health never feeling good enough no matter what I achieved, never felt like I quite fit in. The queer and neurodiverse communities have particularly felt close to my heart so often misunderstood and dismissed for their unique authentic experiences.

A lot has changed since I found therapy, and most importantly - the right kind of therapy for me. As a recovering perfectionist I slowly found ways to accept imperfection and living authentically. In counselling sessions with me it shows up with a dash of whimsy, occasional forgetting of "that one specific word that I think really fits here" (bilingual struggles...), taking pauses to think, and genuinely not having all the knowledge but instead learning from YOU how it feels to be you.

My counselling approach

So much of what shows up in session is someone who's spent years being whoever felt safest to be: the easy partner, the reliable friend, the one who never lets anyone down. You won't become a different person, but rather make room again for the parts of you that went quiet and slowly finding the courage to try things without needing to get them right.

Part of this process may involve creative approaches (drawing, writing, whatever creative ways you feel comfortable expressing yourself), some trauma informed body work (body scans, noticing body sensations, gentle movement), radical acceptance (roughly - what can you do with what you are given).

If you are struggling with disability, chronic pain or other health conditions performing and having it together all the time may be even more costly. I will adapt to your needs as much as I can and together we will create gentle ways you can support your mental health whilst being kind to your body.
